Saturday Share: A chance to win a quilt...and support a guild

I'm using my Saturday share post this week to highlight one of the many lovely quilt guilds in our area, and to shine a little light on the fact that As quilt shows have not been able to safely proceed in these times of Covid, it's been more challenging to sell raffle tickets to the public.

There are wonderful works of art by our local guilds that need to be loved and adored (and won!) by some lucky person. So to help spread the word, I'm going to be posting raffle quilts from the different guilds along with the information on how YOU can get some chances to win--all the while supporting the community of quilters who in turn, do so much for our community.

First up! Teakettle Quilt Guild's gorgeous quilt! Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. To get tickets you can email 897schrock@msn.com. Or if you'd like to see the quilt in person, stop in to see it at Whitefish Quilts (where you can also buy tickets!) The raffle quilt winner will be picked at the guild's April 17th meeting. Do you live out of town? If you are the winner they guild will ship the quilt to you for free!

(You could also buy a ticket and put down someone's name who you'd love to see receive this quilt!)

Saturday Share: Woven Backgrounds

I'm teaching again today! (online class hosted by the lovely folks at The Original Sewing Expo!) So I'll make this a short post.

Summer Solstice

Textile Art by Monique Kleinhans

Today we are exploring creating woven backgrounds to make two fabrics (or more!) into beautiful and creative backgrounds for focus pieces. It's a technique that I was first introduced to by my Mom who had just purchased Anna Faustino's book Simply Stunning Woven Quilts prior to a quilting retreat. As soon as my Mom started playing, almost everyone else at the retreat ran to the store to get the supplies needed to play along and my Mom ended up teaching an impromptu class herself! Since then, I've enjoyed using the different styles of weaving fabrics together to add lots of movement and color into projects.
