Under the Night Western Skies

This piece is a collage of different techniques inspired by the beautiful wide open spaces that we still enjoy here in our state. I love that there are places where we can wander and imagine what the entire territory used to look like before so many people moved west. Watching the massive bison wander across the open plains with nothing but the expansive sky to look down upon them.
I sketched the bison on fabric using watercolor pencils and then did some extensive thread painting to add texture and depth. The Sky is pieced with applique and the hill has some added texture embellishment to give the bison to meadow grass to wander through.
This piece will be on display for the Bigfork Culture and Arts Center for the next month.
